St Catherine of Siena Catholic Primary school is dedicated to ensuring that all members of the school community and the wider community are treated fairly and with respect by the school and each other.
This applies to the school as a place of education, a business and an employer. Prejudice, discrimination and victimisation are not tolerated and we work hard to instil in our pupils a strong understanding of right and wrong, including the importance of inclusion, acceptance and compassion towards others.
The Equality Policy sets out how the school will promote equality of opportunity regardless of race, gender, transgender, religion or belief, disability, age and sexual orientation. It is created by St Catherine’s Governing Board with the help of the school's Senior Leadership Team in line with the Equality Act 2010 and is the foundation of all the school’s other policies. We are committed to ensuring equality of provision throughout the school community.
To achieve this, our equality objectives 2017-2019 are as follows:
1. To reduce the attainment gap between boys and girls in Reading and Writing in all Key Stages.
2. To move beyond deterministic notions of fixed ability and to model teaching and learning behaviours that avoid labelling.
3. To reduce prejudice and increase the understanding of other faiths and cultures through direct teaching across the curriculum and offer a rich range of experiences.
