Community & The Common Good

Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.

Matthew 25:40

At St Catherine’s we have a Mission as part of the wider Catholic Church, and to be able to live this out, we aim to serve the Common Good in our localities and in our wider world. Our School Mission statement states, ‘Be who created you to be, and you will set the world on fire!’ Our pupils and staff aim to set the world on fire by going out to do good in our community; by inviting community members into school; and by using our God given skills and talents to help and support those in need.

We seek to embrace and contribute to the Mission of Church, to proclaim the Gospel of Christ and to bring each person closer to our loving Father through the power of the Holy Spirit. By recognising the dignity of all, finding opportunities to imitate Christ and striving to love and serve others, we aim to encourage one another to give in service, in as much as we give of our resources through charity fundraising. This means we try to be giving of our time to charities and to others, and as a school community, we organise events throughout the year to raise awareness of charities and contribute to their cause.

Each year we have a Community Week in which all classes undertake work within our local community. Take a look at this video to see for yourself…

Community Week 2021

This year our Community Week events included: scooter washing for charity; gardening around the school site; performing for a local care home; fundraising for the Food Bank; collecting items for Afghan refugees, new to Watford; and decorating, cleaning and gardening at Our Lady & St Michael’s Church.

Community Events

We want our pupils to be beacons in our local community. Inspired by Christ’s model of Servant Leadership, our children reach out and draw people in, to do good.

Some of our annual events include:

Community Day 2020

Due to Coronavirus, this year we had to adapt and have a Community Day! Each class spent the day doing something to help our community, either in school or out in the wider community.
